About This Course

This two-hour course analyzes the design of accessible parking facilities that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG), and ICC A117.1. The course focuses on parking facility locations, stalls, access aisles, signage, accessible routes, and egress. The course also explores alterations that can be made to existing facilities to improve accessibility.

The content explores critical design parameters, including precise space dimensions, van-accessible clearances, acceptable slope gradients, and the strategic placement of access aisles. Beyond the physical spaces, the course delves into mandatory signage, high-visibility ground markings, and the vital integration of accessible parking areas with compliant, barrier-free routes to building entrances. Through a detailed examination of current accessibility standards, this course offers a thorough exploration of how to develop parking facilities that prioritize safety, strict legal compliance, and universal usability for all individuals.
